Brighten Your Mood Instantly with this 1 Simple Technique

Try this quick exercise with me now - Put your head down, look towards the ground, slump and round your shoulders, take only shallow breathes and notice how do you feel?

Then - STAND UP, look up to the sky, put your shoulders back and smile, have a little laugh and take a few deep breaths. Now how do you feel?

Changing your body language can be one of the most effective ways to change your mood.

It is easy to think that our body language is purely as a result of our attitude, genetic make up, personality or how we feel. For example if you are depressed, anxious or in pain, or even if you just wake up feeling a bit rubbish that day, like we all do sometimes, you're probably not going to be leaping out of bed jumping for joy with your shoulders back, with a big smile on your face and thinking of all the brilliant things you have to be grateful for in life. BUT the thing is, research has now proven (and you have also just experienced for yourself) that if you take control of your body language, you can take control of your emotions and feelings, which means -  you can take control of your day and choose how you feel. Changing your body language changes your attitude and that is fact.

When you are putting your shoulders back, looking up, and having a big smile, you are actually tricking your body's nervous system into thinking it is having a great time and when this happens you start changing the chemistry in your body.

Research shows that positive body language increases your testosterone levels by 20%. Whether you are a man or a woman, testosterone improves your confidence, and also, other people will see you as more trustworthy and positive.

Positive body language also decreases cortisol. Cortisol is a stress hormone and if you produce too much of it, (which most of us do nowadays with our busy lives) it decreases performance levels and creates major health problems over the long term. Decreasing cortisol levels minimises stress, it decreases pain levels, enables you to think more clearly and improves your health. Research shows

that positive body language decreases cortisol levels by 25%.

So just think, you could be 25% healthier and happier than you are now, just by changing your body language! What's not to love about this? It's free, it's quick, it's simple and makes you feel amazing. So go ahead and make yourself feel great again.
